●What kind of metal can be forged?
A forging is a piece of metal that has been formed, usually, but not always heated, into a shape through the application of pressure. Deformation produces a wrought structure.
Note that this is different from the casting process in which metal is liquefied, and then poured into a mold which dictates its shape when cooled. Deformation produces a wrought structure with improved properties and strength.
Forged metal parts, or forgings, can be found in applications too numerous to list. Yongxin steel Forging Co., Ltd.'s markets range from Aerospace to Submarines and from Defense to R&D. Contact Yongxin steel Forging Co., Ltd. Sales for more details.
The forging process enhances the properties of a metal by orienting grain flow to provide greater strength where desired. These improved properties mean that a forged part can do the same job as a casting, but with less material. Weight savings can also be achieved by combining parts, and eliminating the need for fasteners or welds.
Forgings are also much more reliable than castings because the material is never re-melted, and therefore, there is no opportunity to introduce impurities or voids. In fact, the forging process can actually improve the material. Defects formed in the casting process can actually be worked out of the material. Although flange generally refers to the actual raised rim or lip of a fitting, many flanged plumbing fittings are themselves known as 'flanges':
Surrey FlangeCommon flanges used in plumbing are the Surrey flange or Danzey flange, York flange, Sussex flange and Essex flange. Surrey and York flanges fit to the top of the hot water tank allowing all the water to be taken without disturbance to the tank. They are often used to ensure an even flow of water to showers. An Essex flange requires a hole to be drilled in the side of the tank.
There is also a Warix flange which is the same as a York flange but the shower output is on the top of the flange and the vent on the side. The York and Warix flange have female adapters so that they fit onto a male tank, whereas the Surrey flange connects to a female tank.
A closet flange provides the mount for a toilet.
